About us

I am 40 years old, and my husband is 42. We have been on this crazy journey for 5 years now. Like almost everyone else, we never considered that it might be difficult for us to start a family. We really just took having kids when we were ready for granted. And like many other couples, we waited until "later" in life to start our family. We were married in 2007 and it was then that we started trying to conceive. I was 34 and DH was 36. It took us a year to conceive our first son, and shortly into the pregnancy I started bleeding. We were given a 50/50 chance of carrying the pregnancy to term. I was put off work and was a nervous wreck...and to add to the stress we were building a new house and I was acting as the General Contractor. Arghhh! (Not a job I recommend for pregnant ladies!)

Our tough little boy was born in February of 2009. In December of that same year we were pregnant again, but suffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks. Devastating! This was my 2nd miscarriage as I had one when I was just 20 years old. And then came months of trying again. No luck. In the summer of 2011 we began seeing an RE and he ordered a battery of tests. HSG, Bloodwork, Antral Follicle Count, Sperm Analysis, etc. The verdict? Diminished Ovarian Reserve. IE: Not very many eggs left in the basket. I began a regime of CoQ10, DHEA, Metformin, Folic Acid & Vitamin D. Now that was a lot to swallow! hehe
We were told to try IUI as DH's sperm results were fantastic. We were set to start our first procedure in December of that year but had to cancel. On January 20th of 2012 we did our first IUI using Femara 5 mg (Letrozole) on CD 3 to 7. On January 31st I was away out of town at a conference and low and behold...BFP!!!! Our second son was born in October 2012! Details of this IUI and my pregnancy can be found in older blog posts.
In the summer of 2013 we returned to our RE and began the journey of TTC #3 as we really wanted a third child! 3 IUI's later and no luck. My Antral Follicle Count had been re-checked and had diminished considerably :(. Cue us now, May of 2014 and moving on to IVF with a new RE...the journey continues!
